I began the job shadow experience by first applying to work at this Walgreens which is how I met the manager. After talking to the manager a few times after applying and talking about what the job requires I emailed him asking if it was ok to job shadow him. He replying saying it would be fine if I were to job shadow him and that I could also apply for and internship to earn work experience.
The day before the job shadow I emailed the manager asking if the job shadow was still going on he replied saying that there were no problems and that I could go to the store at any time before 6pm. The day of the job shadow I got up early got dressed in the appropriate clothing and got my questions sheet and evaluation sheet then left to go to the store. Once I got there at 8am I greeted the manager we talked about what we would be doing that day then he began working.
The manager’s day starting off by checking around the store to make sure everything was in order he talked to his employees asking them about how they were doing with their assignments. The manager rotated back and forth from his office sending emails and writing down paper work then walking out and helping customers. To me it seemed like he wasn’t just in charge of the store as a figure head he did multiple jobs that he wasn’t even required to do. After about two hours of the manager going through the motions of the day we sat down and I questioned him asking several things about his job and learning at the same time. After the questions I learned that he doesn’t have a set of hours he needs to fulfill but he works fifty hours and he also has several vacation days but doesn’t use them.
I stayed there for about an hour after the questions watched the manager go from the checkout counter to the photo counter and saw how he liked what he did and how his employees respected him as a boss. He also treated everyone kindly and did his best to help them out no one gave him a hard time but he had told me that in his line of work you always need to remain positive even with the most negative customer. Once the job shadow had ended I said goodbye shook his hand and thanked him for the allowing me to job shadow him.
